Caster City

Trolley wheels are used with caster city or axles to create movable units. They are available in a variety of sizes and materials to fit different applications.

Heavy-duty casters with locking and braking mechanisms are an important safety feature for some industries. Without these devices, trolleys can move uncontrollably and cause damage to the items being carried.

Wheels for use on shopping carts, sand and gravel trucks, cranes, monorails, hoists, overhead & floor conveyors, elevating trucks, machinery, machine movers, foundries, spray booths, molding machines & plating & pickling applications can all benefit from this addition to their design.

A retaining lock 19 is resilient for snap-fitting engagement upon swivelling of at least one castor wheel 15 to an in-line position when the mechanism is in the unidirectional mode. It is in registry with the plunger 20 when the mechanism is in this position.

The retaining lock is movable between free and unidirectional modes in response to the user actuator 4 and 5. It is rotated to a first free position with the cam 3 and a second braking position with the plunger 20 engaging the brake disc 22.

When the swivelling is restricted by the notch in the retainer lock 19, the plunger 20 and disc 22 are displaced in opposite directions and so do not engage each other. This ensures that the wheels are retained in-line (straight ahead) when a user is pushing or pulling the trolley.

Trolleys with a fixed-wheel design are becoming increasingly common in the United States. They are great for airports, where narrow aisles require trolleys to be pushed or pulled in a straight-ahead direction.
